This heat flow takes place during combustion and expansion processes. The remaining one third flows into the various components of the engine, namely, cylinder, cylinder head, valves, spark plug (in SI engines), fuel injector (in CI engines) and pistons. Another one third goes out through the exhaust pipe unused. About one third of the heat energy liberated b the burning fuel is converted into power.
